Tecnis

Tecnis IOL

The TECNIS® Multifocal IOL is an exciting new alternative for patients in the United States with cataracts and those presbyopic individuals (people who need glasses for reading) who desire independence from glasses or contact lenses. The Tecnis multifocal showed the highest number of subjects who never wear glasses ever reported in an FDA monitored investigation.

The TECNIS® Multifocal IOL is designed to have roughly an equal amount of light-focusing ability for distance vision and near vision. It has an aspheric front surface and a diffractive multifocal surface on the backside of the lens. The diffractive surface consists of many concentric rings of very fine ridges that create focusing zones that bend light differently to provide a multifocal correction.

TECNIS® was designed to help you regain younger vision and be free of glasses, the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens can provide you with high-quality vision at all distances and in all lighting conditions—even when reading in dim light.

The TECNIS® Multifocal Lens allows you to lead an active lifestyle. If you enjoy activities such as reading, boating, quilting, playing golf, sightseeing, or surfing the Internet, TECNIS® Multifocal can help you.

TECNIS® Multifocal FAQs

Every surgical procedure has risks and potential side effects. We will explain these in full detail. However, the lens removal and lens implant technique used in the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens procedure is performed over 15 million times per year worldwide3 and is recognized for its safety and predictability.

Everyone heals at a different rate, but in most cases, you will notice improved vision almost immediately after your procedure. You may, however, have an adjustment period where you see some glare or halos around bright lights. In most cases, this goes away over a period of weeks or months.

Many people with the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens experience the best eyesight they’ve had in years. In fact, nearly 9 out of 10 people do not require glasses after receiving a TECNIS® Multifocal implantable lens.1

If you’ve been diagnosed with cataracts, you may be a candidate for the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens. Whether the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens is the right choice for you depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and the overall health of your eyes. Your doctor will make a recommendation following a complete eye exam.

The TECNIS® Multifocal Lens is a multifocal intraocular lens. Unlike traditional monofocal (single-vision) lens implants, the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens provides quality vision at all distances – near (reading), intermediate (computer use or cooking), and far (driving). Traditional monofocal lenses usually provide good vision only at a distance with limited ability to see objects that are near without glasses.

The natural lens inside the eye is gently removed through a tiny incision in the periphery of your eye’s cornea. The cataract-impaired lens is then removed through this incision and the lens implant is inserted in its place to permanently replace it. The procedure usually takes about 15 to 45 minutes and vision is usually improved immediately.

The advanced TECNIS® Multifocal is an implantable lens that significantly improves vision after cataract surgery and corrects the inability to see up close called presbyopia.
