Intralase Laser Eye Surgery

The IntraLase Method is a 100% blade-free technique used to perform the critical first step in the LASIK procedure: creating the corneal flap. The creation of the corneal flap prepares the eye for the second step of the LASIK procedure where an excimer laser is used on the inner cornea to correct vision.

Ask Us A Question
While growing up in Southern California, James Donovan knew from a young age that he wanted to be a doctor. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1989 from the University of Notre Dame. He then earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Donovan pursued his research interests working with the Departments of Ophthalmology and Neurology in the sub-retinal implantation and physiological testing of an Artificial Retina Device in rabbits. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans where he served as Chief Resident during his final year.
As soon as he became eligible, Dr. Donovan became board certified in ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The American College of Eye Surgeons, the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, and the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Donovan practiced for several years in Camarillo and Ventura, California. He also practiced in Covington and New Orleans, Louisiana, where he lectured and was involved in clinical instruction for the Ophthalmology residency program. He returned to Long Beach to join Eye Physicians of Long Beach in 2007. He practices general ophthalmology with a special emphasis on cataract and refractive surgery.
Having realized his childhood ambitions, Dr. Donovan finds his career in ophthalmology extremely fulfilling and is proud to be able to touch the lives of so many through life-changing care at Eye Physicians of Long Beach. In his free time Dr. Donovan enjoys the outdoors with the beach and mountain activities found in Southern California.
